MPower Co in partnership with Kansas City’s Fountain of Health Wellness Program offers you Happiness Habitudes. The course will start with discovering your signature strengths and setting aside strategies that too many people tend to turn to that aren’t very helpful. The remainder of the course will be packed with information and strategies that research and science have proven to help amp up your well-being.

Each chapter takes less than an hour to work through; however, they are each packed with knowledge on practical, friendly habits and attitudes you can implement immediately to boost your happiness.  Ready for more good news?  Implementing these habits and attitudes won’t cost you a cent; however, the payoffs can be huge for you and those around you.

In this introductory chapter, you will meet your course author and coach. After an overview of the course content, discover your signature strengths, and mobilize them to be your most tenacious self.

FINDING HAPPINESS AND POSITIVE EMOTIONS

In this chapter, learn why it’s essential to move from the pursuit of happiness to experiencing happiness now. Happiness and positive emotions can increase your success and prevent some problems. Positive emotions can also serve as a realistic buffer for adversity and help with recovery.

Engaging in Resilience

Think of this chapter as our starting point for “how to bounce” when life happens. you will discover lots of practical ideas and strategies. William Churchill said it well. “Success is not final; failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Relationships

Loneliness is toxic, but good relationships are protective. In this chapter, you will learn about three persuasive conclusions from a longitudinal Harvard University study on how relationships can strengthen your life. Conflict is inevitable. You will learn how to rein in the headless horsemen and practice options that better permit relationships to continue and grow.

Learned Optimism and Meaning

Optimism is not as much genetic as it is an educational process that is positively life-changing. This unit is about how to step up your hopefulness. This chapter will also help you to focus on identifying meaning and celebrating it.

Let me teach you the power of threes in this chapter! In a world where people tend to distract themselves with technology, we need to be far more skilled at managing our focus.

Forgiveness

Who does forgiveness benefit most?  You.

You’ve heard, “Forgive and forget.” That statement is only half true. In this chapter, you will learn why it is important to forgive but not to forget. You will also learn powerful positive techniques for incorporating forgiveness into your life.

Gratitude

A positive and negative thought can not occupy the same space. The habit of gratitude is life-changing, and this chapter covers the cues to be more grateful each day.

How It Works

Fully Online

This is an online course that can be accessed with any device (we would recommend using a computer) that has internet access.

8 Chapters

There are eight individual chapters, which are detailed in the above section.  The chapters are individually released allowing students to immerse themselves in one topic allowing for as much growth and knowledge to be transferred as possible.

90 Days of Access

The course starts the day you enroll in the course. Students have access to the course information 24/7 for 90 days from the course enrollment date. Therefore, you can access the information when it works best. This allows you time  to re-read chapters and/or catch-up if life happens.

Weekly Emails

Each week of the course your instructor will send an email to introduce the week’s topic ensuring you are notified of the chapter release. The communication will provide encouragement and maybe even be a joke or two.

Individualized Communication with Instructor Weekly

As part of each chapter, there are prompted questions/discussion points for a communication with the course instructor. You choose which items you want to discuss with your instructor. You have the sole discretion to determine how much you want to share. Each student receives a personalized, timely response to these communications. Our goal is to ensure each student reaches their goals for taking the course.

Progress Tracker

Once the course begins, you have access 24/7 for 90 days from you registration in the course. MPower Co uses Thinkific to deliver the course content, which tracks your progress for you. This allows you to know where you left off soy  can pick up right where you left off.

Videos

Throughout the course you will get links to videos created by individuals who are leaders in the positive psychology space. Instead of having to research the top information from the top individuals in positive psychology, course author Dr. Thia has already done the work for adults taking the course!

Assessments

The course has links to assessments you can take (for instance, there is one about learning your signature strengths). These are third party assessments where there is no right or wrong answer. They are provided for the purpose of you learning and not to be judged or graded as part of the course.

Meet Your

Happiness Habitudes Author and Instructor

Dr. Cynthia “Thia” Crawford

Before joining MPower Co as Director of Education, Thia served as an extension professor at the university level for over 30 years. Her expertise has reached over 300 million people through radio and face-to-face workshops and classes on subjects including financial education, leadership, management, and donor education. A highlight of her career has been traveling the world as a W.K. Kellogg International Leadership Fellow (class 1).

Although Dr. Crawford already holds advanced degrees in consumer economics and adult education, Thia continues to model life-long education, recently finishing graduate work focused on positive psychology and how it can make retirement planning more comprehensive and impactful. Thia is a university extension professor emerita, a scholar, an entrepreneur and business owner, radio personality, researcher and problem solver, college sports fan, international traveler, cattle rancher, and tree farmer.  She is always excited about the opportunity to work with individuals.

Course Terms

The negotiated course fee for Happiness Habitudes is $99; however, the City of Kansas City Fountain of Health Wellness Program will pay this fee for you as long as you complete the course. Simply use code “kcwellness” at checkout.

Completion of the course has been determined to consist of completing  at least 6 of the 8 chapters. Completion of each chapter is a substantive email exchange (one or two paragraphs) with the instructor about information you found most meaningful in the chapter and how you have or will apply the information in the course. An email to the instructor saying “I read it” is not a substantive response.

You will have access to Happiness Habitudes for 90 days from your enrollment date in the course. The course chapters will be released to you each week until all chapters are released.  We know “life happens” during the course. While a good goal, it is not required to complete a chapter each week. You may work at your own pace to complete the course within the 90 day course window. You have extra time after all chapters are released to continue working or to review any of the course material.

If you do not complete at least 6 of the 8 chapters in the 90-day window, the $99 course fee will be deducted from two of your future paychecks. The good news is nearly all people enrolling that get started in the course, find this information so valuable they complete the course.

All information you choose to share through communications with your instructor will be treated with strict confidentiality. Because of the partnership between MPower and the Fountain of Wellness Program, the wellness program will be provided a list of employees enrolling on the course start date so program eligibility can be confirmed.  At the conclusion of the course, the wellness program will be provided a list of those enrolled indicating who completed the course and who did not.
